TEHRAN -- Iranian grandmaster Ehsan Qaem-Maqami is leading the 4th Asian Men's Chess Championships in capital of Qatar, Doha.

Qaem-Maqami topped the Asian event on Monday as his third-round fight against an Indian chess player ended in a stalemate.

Hamid-Reza Mohammadi, also an Iranian player, defeated Ebrahim Shahab of the United Arab Emirates, IRNA reported.

In the second round, Qaem-Maqami beat the Asian defending champion, Dao of Vietnam, in the 28th move but Mohammadi lost to a Dutch player.

On Sunday, the Iranian grandmaster checkmated his Qatari opponent Jassem Saleh in his first match and Mohammadi did not make it and was beaten by a Kazakh player.

Fifty-four chess players from 21 countries are competing in the 9-round Swiss-style Asian tourney.
